Ft. Wainwright, AK. The Heavy Truck Driver
drives a truck (over 4 tons) to transport materials, merchandise, or equipment between various types of establishments. Drive a gasoline or diesel powered tractor to move materials, draw implements, tow trailers, pull cable or winch to raise, lower or load heavy material or equipment. Heavy Truck Driver also fastens attachments such as trailers, graders, plows, rollers, and back hoes to tractor, adjusts equipment for proper operation, and lubricates and makes minor repairs to tractor and attachments such as tightening bolts, and replacing washers, cotter pins, and screws.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Handle freight without damage
Check freight received/delivered against freight bill for accuracy
Accomplish work in compliance with company, government and DOT regulations.
Will drive commercial vehicles and perform “safety-sensitive” functions per Department of Transportation regulations and subject to 49 CFR Part 40.
Identify material requirement listing for work in government acceptable format
Assist in maintaining equipment operations shop inventory
Maintain accurately required logs, records, and documentation
Operate general and special purpose vehicles
Operate equipment safely, perform safe work practices and procedures, and adhere to occupational health standards
Perform related duties as required, such as daily housekeeping and inventories, as directed
Ensures work orders when complete are properly filled out and returned to work management
Supports the project Safety Plan through personal involvement in all aspects of safety, including training and attention to the adherence to safety requirements pertaining to particular trades or skills
This position has been designated as Mission Critical. Mission Critical personnel are defined as those required to meet the Installation’s safety (including inclement weather for snow and ice control operations) and security needs during lockdown conditions
This position may be part of an emergency management/response team as required by the company to meet contract requirements

Required (Minimum Necessary) Qualifications (applies to both this section and KSAO’s)
High school diploma or equivalent required; or completion of technical courses in service, trade, or craft.
CDL Class B
Must maintain a valid state’s driver license in order to drive any customer or company vehicles.
Ability to pass annual medical certifications; annual driving record reviews; DOT Clearinghouse checks as applicable and other regulatory requirements.
Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics
Favorable motor vehicle report and background check
Working knowledge of Microsoft Office products
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to follow directions
Must have the ability to work independently using sound judgment, perform tasks normally associated with vehicle operations and operate heavy trucks in a reliable manner with public safety in mind
Must be knowledgeable of manifest and shipping documents normally associated with the trucking industry

Preferred
Prior experience working on a government services contract, desirable.

DOT COVERED/SAFETY-SENSITIVE ROLE REQUIREMENTS
This position does
perform DOT “safety-sensitive” functions (as defined under 49 CFR Part 40) and is subject
to all federal requirements related to Department of Transportation requirements for those performing, or on-call to perform, “safety-sensitive” functions. Employees must provide a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and Medical Examiner’s Certificate (MEC).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Work Environment characteristics described here are representative of those that must be borne by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee will normally work in a temperature-controlled office environment, with frequent exposure to electronic office equipment. During visits to areas of operations, may be exposed to extreme cold or hot weather conditions. Is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and loud noise.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
No supervisory responsibilities.
ADDITIONAL QUALIFYING FACTORS
As a condition of employment, may be required to pass a pre-employment drug screening, as well as have acceptable reference and background check results to obtain access to military base. Must have reliable transportation to/from work a necessity and must be able to obtain access to military installations.
