Job Description Responsible for operating a variety of trucks in conjunction with van trailers, luggers, tankers, roll-off frames, etc. in depositing hazardous and non-hazardous waste materials at various destinations (i.e. stabilization pits/landfill/warehouse buildings/10-day terminal) within the facility.
PRIMARY DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Prior to transporting materials reviews shipment records, manifests, container labeling, container integrity, vehicle placards, and cargo security of loaded drums, roll-off boxes or bulk tankers.
2. Ensure that DOT requirements such as load weight limits, driver log books, Vehicle Inspection Records, transportation permits, insurance cards, fuel trip reports, IFTA fuel stickers, or other paperwork are up to date and valid for all over-the-road equipment.
3. Notify immediate supervisor of any violations and/or accidents.
4. Assist in the loading/unloading of waste materials at designated facility locations including stabilization pit, non-hazardous pits, landfill, storage areas, or 10-day terminal.
5. Safely moves a variety of vehicles containing hazardous waste materials to appointed designated areas within the facility based on daily operational needs.
6. Check condition of various loaded equipment moved on-site for load and equipment integrity. Once equipment is offloaded will insure integrity by closing van doors, removing placards, replacing roll-off box tarps, securing tank hoses, etc.
7. Perform daily inspections and minor maintenance of on-site trucks and/or trailers prior to driving to ensure safety and worthiness.
8. Assure site compliance by escorting paperwork (i.e. manifests, dump tickets) with the specific load as it is moved to a different facility locations or landfill.
9. Responsible for assisting with housekeeping as required.
10. Ability to perform other small facility maintenance repairs.
11. Assist in facility snow removal.
12. Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications Education / Experience / Background
● High School diploma or General Educational Development (GED) required
● Prior work experience of 2-3 years in a related transportation position preferred
● Familiarity with DOT regulations pertaining to transporting materials helpful
Knowledge / Skills / Abilities
● Knowledge of DOT regulations pertaining to the transportation of hazardous and
non-hazardous materials
● Strong team player
● Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
● Ability to manage time effectively to support various operational activities
● Ability to work independently without supervision.
● Strong customer service skills
● Must be able to pass a DOT physical and have a clean driving record.
Required Certification / Licenses / Training
● Valid Class A Commercial Driving License (CDL) required
● Hazmat (H) endorsement required
● Other CDL endorsements as required (i.e. tanker, air brakes, etc.)
● 40-Hour HAZWOPER training required
● Valid DOT Medical Certification
