Summary Due to the Pandemic and individual states with different phases of reopening, the selecteeu2019s report date to the official duty station/facility may be delayed until such time as employees are allowed to report to the workplace. The person selected may telework up to the maximum extent possible, up to and including full time, until it is determined by state and Federal officials that employees are allowed to report to the workplace where this position is located, on a regular basis. Responsibilities The position is an entry-level Airway Transportation Systems Specialist (ATSS). All duties of an ATSS are tied to maintaining safe and efficient operating capacity of the vast and complex network or electronics systems required for the world's largest air traffic control and navigation system. ATSS personnel install, evaluate, maintain, modify and certify facilities, services and equipment that support the National Airspace System (NAS).At this level, the incumbent performs basic, progressively more difficult assignments. Receives academic and on-the-job instruction in the fundamentals of the appropriate discipline. Acquires and applies basic technical knowledge and limited experience to accomplish assignments. The primary responsibilities are associated with acquiring basic knowledge and hands-on experience leading to the to perform coordination, operation, repair, installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, modification, flight ability check. certification, and documentation activities on all or some of the following discipline specific systems and services:Environmental: Lighted Navigational Aids Systems, Industrial Engine Generators, Industrial Systems, Industrial Power Sources/Power-Conditioning Systems, Central Control Monitoring System, and Industrial Electronic Controls Systems. Radar: Airport Surveillance.Radar: Air Route Surveillance Radar, Air Traffic Control Beacon Indicator, Mode Select Beacon, Airport Surface Detection Equipment, Terminal Doppler Weather Radar, Weather Service Processor, Weather Display System, and Identified Friend or Foe.Weather: Automatic Terminal Information System, Automated Weather Observing System, Integrated Terminal Weather System, Low Level Wind Shear Aircraft Control and Navigation, and Distance Measuring Equipment.Navigational Aids: Instrument Landing Systems, Very high Frequency Omni Directional Ranges, Doppler Very High Frequency Omni Directional Ranges, Tactical Aircraft Control and Navigation, and Distance Measuring Equipment.Communications: Motorola, ITT or General Dynamics radios, Radio Communications Link Repeaters, low Density Radio Communications link Repeaters, various voice switches, Tower Data Link Services, voice recorder systems, and UHF/ VHF/SATCOM.Automation: En Route Automation Modernization, Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System, Oceanic Display and Planning environment, industrial system diagnostics in the corporate environment, and industrial Local Area Network Wide Area Network systems in the corporate environment.The ATSS receives instruction on one or more or the systems and services to perform basic. but progressively more complex training assignments under the close direction of a supervisor, team leader, on-the-job training (OH) instructor, or a more experienced employee. Receives academic and OJT instruction in the fundamentals of the appropriate discipline and the fundamentals of coordination, logging and maintenance documentation activities in accordance with FAA orders, Technical Instruction manuals, policies and procedures. Refers problems and questions to a supervisor, team leader, or more experienced technician. Works with increasing independence as development progresses.The ATSS may be required to coordinate actions with customers on a limited basis. Work is reviewed regularly to ensure required skills are being acquired. Works with increasing independence as development progresses. Experience may have been gained in occupations such as computer specialist, electronics technician, telecommunications specialist, engineer, or other work related to this position. Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be qualifying for this position Valid Driver's License is requiredTO QUALIFY AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON EDUCATION: Applicants must document a full 4-year course of study leading to a Bachelor's degree in one of these fields: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position, OR at least 24 semester hours in of these fields or in any combination of the following: computer science, mathematics, electronics, physical sciences, information management, engineering, telecommunications, or other fields related to this position. Schools must be accredited by an accrediting institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. If qualifying based on education, applicants must submit a copy of the transcript which includes the name of the institution, quarter or semester hours earned and/or confer date.QUALIFICATIONS AT THE FV-F LEVEL BASED ON A COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be qualifying for this position.
