Where you fit in
Tackling climate change is the biggest challenge the world faces today. In 2021 Shell launched its Powering Progress strategy to accelerate the transition of Shell’s business to net-zero emissions by 2050. This new strategy sets a variety of nearer term targets. Among others, it specifies 2030 milestones such as 8 times more Low Carbon Fuels (LCF) production and LCF sales increase to over 10% of transportation fuels.
Trading & Supply’s (T&S) ambitions is to execute the Powering Progress strategy by acting as the commercial integrator and becoming a leading provider of cleaner energy. T&S Products (TSP) has grown to be one of the largest blenders of LCF in the world. To further monetize that growth, a Global Low Carbon Fuels organization (TSP LCF) was recently launched. The mandate for this new organization is to enable energy transition through strategic focus on developing LCF for the future of Shell, integrate and simplify by driving single point of accountability and deliver greater integrated value by strengthening its role as integrator with the rest of Shell.
Focus areas for TSP LCF are:
Development of new LCF value chains.
Develop and grow value from Sustainable Aviation Fuels (SAF).
Develop LCF routes to markets.
Production sites value creation
Optimize equity and non-equity LCF assets, including feedstock
Ensure compliance to LCF regulation.
What’s the role?
TSP LCF is integral to this aspiration and is working with partners in the Downstream to grow its position as a market leader in Biofuels by securing a sizeable and sustainable portfolio of active feedstock and finished grade positions through our established Global Trading Network. This requires the development of new and also keeping current supply infrastructure while ensuring the business continues to evolve with biofuels legislation, international trade policies and market developments. This dynamic and exciting role will drive the value generation of the biofuels by ensuring the required and most valuable routes to market.
Specifically, the role will:
Create a clear overview of our current and future deal portfolio (external and own equity production) and the streams it will generate.
Based on European regulatory knowledge, define where these molecules will need to be placed to generate the highest return.
Define what LCF trading, storage & blending facilities and transportation means we will need to have and contract these.
Work with the other Shell Trading desks on (future) impact of LCF products on their blending requirements.
Define what other countries we might need to have routes to market that we are currently not present in and establish this network including terminal negotiations.
Define what inland routes to market we should have and work together with wider Supply Chain BD teams in driving that strategy and ensuring implementation.
Be the go-to person for Supply chain BD on any logistical requests for LCF products.
Dimensions:
Europe wide.
Deliver projects to generate additional value to Shell’s integrated business via optimization of renewables compliance.
Support the growth of renewables in transport from 10% of the transport mix in 2020 to at least 20% by 2030.
What we need from you
We hope to find the following in your CV:
Masters degree in Supply Chain or Logistics is advantageous.
Must have skills in Commercial Deal Making, Commodity Logistics and/or Trading and ideally experience with Biofuels.
Commercial Skills: including deal-making, contract generation and negotiation; preferably in a trading environment.
Highly motivated with deep interest in the trading business, low carbon fuels and the Energy Transition Challenge.
Able to spot commercial opportunities in the market-place (rather than just managing existing relationships) and managing these from concept to realization including negotiations.
It is essential that you can show you are a resilient self-starter and can contribute effectively to teamwork, and when required, leading a virtual team without formal authority.
Other advantages include demonstratable understanding of Supply & Trading economics or pricing.
End-to-end understanding on how value is created in the biofuels business such as supply chain network design and cost optimization.
Broad and robust knowledge of the global regulatory environment for biofuels.
Experience with and knowledge on product quality, blending, storage, handling and transport.
Must be proficient with MS Office applications.
Must have excellent analytical and numerical skills, as well as communication, influencing, stakeholder management and persuasion skills.
Proficiency in English verbally and in writing is a must-have. Other EU language (German, Spanish, France, Italian) is an advantage.
