Job Description:

What’s the role?

Over the last two years, the Renewable Natural Gas (“RNG”) team has identified a Route-to-Market (“RtM”) strategy for Shell’s RNG offering in North America. This customer-centric strategy provides Renewable Compressed Natural Gas (“R-CNG”) as a premier alternative fueling option for hauliers and fleets on the West Coast. Shell’s R-CNG offering is built on the back of a developing pipeline of carbon-negative dairy and swine supply projects. These projects are currently both operational and under development in North America.

The initial build-out of R-CNG fueling infrastructure and customer conversion to R-CNG will occur over the next few years. The team has several cornerstone pieces of the puzzle already in place, including 5 Heavy-Duty R-CNG fueling stations in post-FID/Execute phase, a unique marketing offer for new customers (Shell’s “30/30/30” Program), and an official Shell sub-brand for our R-CNG molecules. Additionally, given the success & customer interest in the first wave of fast-fill fueling stations, there is an ambition to quickly identify and scale-up with multiple fast-fill and time-fill R-CNG sites on the West Coast. These projects and ambitions are currently supported by a team of high-performing Business Development Managers and End-to-End (E2E) Customer Managers, which this role will have the privilege of leading and developing. An expansion of this team in the near-term is required and would scale-up in parallel with future station / dispensing ambitions.

Accountabilities:

Ensure Shell’s RNG production is placed through Shell R-CNG dispensing when possible; coordinate with other parts of Shell to structure offtake deals maximizing the RNG portfolio’s value.
Ensure inclusion and buy-in of stakeholders (internal to Shell and external to Shell) from all necessary businesses while transparently communicating the opportunity, value, & timeline.
Effective and efficient cross-business deal delivery is a requirement of this role, as is a deep understanding of integrated value propositions within the RNG sector.
Develop and hone market intelligence to proactively ensure Shell’s R-CNG offer is well-positioned and highly competitive, while promoting new product brand awareness.

What we need from you

Must have legal authorization to work in the US on a full-time basis for anyone other than current employer.
Bachelor’s Degree required.
Minimum of 10 (ten) years' experience in transportation, industrial, or agricultural marketing or sales, with knowledge of marketing tools and principles.
An in-depth understanding of the CNG/renewable market and associated challenges is a must.
A robust knowledge of the current CNG trucking market as well as relationships to help Shell quickly grow its R-CNG market presence on the West Coast.
Experience with commercial contracting and deal structuring is required.
A track record of leading and inspiring high-performing teams, as well as the ability to create a strategic vision and translate it into profitable projects, is required.
This role will also be expected to ensure projects are delivered safely, on-time, and on-budget, with keen P&L proficiency across all sites.
This position is available in California or the United States.

This role is a high-exposure, delivery-oriented position given the unique renewable product offering and time to market considerations. Because the team is currently in execution mode of the first wave of its strategy, the desired candidate will additionally have some combination of the following:

Proven ability to structure value-accretive commercial arrangements and deliver against challenging timelines. Experience in the natural gas, renewables, Road Transport, Contracting and Procurement, or Trading/Supply businesses either internally or externally is a strong added benefit.
Ability to work across multiple Shell business and functions, as well as throughout various levels of the organization, with strong interpersonal skills and communications tools.
A genuine interest in enabling the Energy Transition through a unique product offering, such as Shell’s R-CNG.
Demonstration of “Enterprise First” behavior, with an ability to extract the most integrated value out of an opportunity for Shell as a whole.
Capacity to understand multiple interdependencies in a highly complex, ambiguous, regulated, and layered market environment.
An eye for detail to identify good opportunities, quickly move on from bad opportunities, and close a deal in a timely manner.
